Fall Off (the wagon) Fridays with Sausage & Pepper Baked Calzone
Ingredients
- 1 Roll Pillsbury Pizza Dough
- 3 Cloves Garlic, pressed or diced small Garlic offers a variety of benefits, from cardiovascular protection, and lowering LDL levels along with triglycerides and lowering blood pressure.
- 1 Shallot Onion is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Some benefits may include reducing the risk of heart disease.
- 1-2 Tablespoons Felippo Berio Olive Oil Olive oil helps decrease the total cholesterol and "bad" LDL cholesterol levels.
- 1 Lb. Italian Turkey Sausage, Hot or Sweet
- 1 Teaspoon Dried or Fresh Oregano Oregano is rich in antioxidants, which are compounds that help fight damage from harmful free radicals in the body. The buildup of free radicals has been linked heart disease.
- 3-4 Fresh Basil Leaves The anti-inflammatory properties of basil may help lower risk of heart disease.
- 3 Baby Bella Mushrooms The fiber, potassium and vitamin C content in mushrooms all contribute to cardiovascular health.
- 1 Orange or Red Bell Pepper Studies have discovered that high levels of lycopene in the blood are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease in both men and women.
- 1/2 Cup Marinara Sauce Store bought or homemade, whichever you prefer
- Dash Sea Salt
- 5-6 Grinds Fresh Black Pepper
- 2 Slices Muenster Cheese
- 2 Slices Provolone cheese
- 3 Slices Bocconcini/Fresh Mozzarella
- 1 Sprinkle Shaved Parmesan
- 2-3 Tablespoons Hot or Mild Giardiniera
- Cooking Spray
Instructions
- First, preheat the oven to 400.
- Next, chop bell pepper, shallot, garlic, mushrooms, and 2 basil leaves.
- Then, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a skillet and add turkey sausage, without the casing and add veggies and saute until browned.
- Next, spray cooking oil on a cookie sheet and roll out the pizza dough.
- Then add 1-1.5 cups of the turkey sausage and veggie mix to the middle of the rectangle of dough.
- Next, add the sauce, cheeses, and basil leaves and fold in half. Pinch the ends of the dough together and spray with cooking spray or brush olive oil over the top of the calzone.
- Finally, bake for 18-20 minutes until browned, remove, cool and serve. Add Hot or Mild Giardiniera if you would like, so delicious....Enjoy!!!

There is plenty of meat leftover for another calzone, so if you want buy two pizza dough rolls.
